About
Jack Smith is a professional artist working with acrylic paint on canvas. He has exhibited at the Museum of Oxford, the Pitt Rivers Museum, and taken part in the Oxford Art Society annual exhibition. Jack has a strong engagement with the LGBTQ+ community and his Pride in London painting was recently selected by the UK Magistrates Association to be among the exhibition: “A 100 years of justice”. He was also invited for a solo exhibition at St. John’s College, University of Oxford with a series of portraits depicting the lives of LGBTQ+ people in Oxford.
Jack’s work is a constant exploration of his surroundings. He has recently moved to Barcelona and, drawing inspiration from its beautiful architecture and stunning natural beauty, he is embarking on a series of Catalan landscapes and townscapes.
Jack has been painting from an early age, constantly developing his technique. He particularly enjoys using palette knives, which add texture and a dynamic feel to his paintings. Often taking inspiration from impressionism, Jack paints light and explores the effect it has on determining the mood of a piece, from peaceful meadows to dramatic sunsets. Also influenced by L. S. Lowry, many of his paintings are inhabited by figures which add vibrancy and make his paintings come to life.
